Itas Trentino-Sonepar Padova, the match report
Match report. Itas Trentino has to do without Kozamernik (who will no longer be available due to a cervical hernia for at least one month); as such, in the starting six, there’s still room for young Pellacani, who plays in the center diagonally to Flavio, together with Sbertoli at the ball, Rychlicki opposite, Michieletto and Lavia spikers and Laurenzano libero. The Sonepar proposed by coach Cuttini on the field includes Falaschi in setting, Masulovic opposite, Porro and Sedlacek spikers, Crosato and Plak middle-blockers and Diez libero. The start of the yellow-blues is a bit harsh: two attacks out (Flavio and Michieletto) allow Padua to immediately take the reins of the game (5-7), but Lavia (in net ball) quickly settles the score at 8. Sonepar returns the favor afterwards, outpacing rapidly the sequence of spikes from Masulovic, Porro and Sedlacek for the 12-9, which suggests the guest technician to halt the game, even if at the resumption the yellow-blues talk big (5-11 with Rychlicki and 17-12 with Michieletto). After the second time-out from Padua, the home team travels safely to win the first set (20-14 and 23-16) also thanks to a remarkable defensive consistency. The 1-0 comes on 25-19, without the hosts ever having to suffer too much.
Padua picks up the pace on the second set, finding good continuity in the side-out (5-5 and 8-8) and, afterwards, even the right tools to keep trying and escape (9-11, scored by Masulovic and Sedlacek). Soli calls time out, but after a few minutes he is forced to spend another one because, in the meantime, the Veneto highball trio has still scored in the breakpoint phase (11-15). Rychlicki (attack and ace) is closely following his opponents (17-18), but it’s with Lavia (another point) that Itas Trentino finds the tie at 21. We move onto the sprint (23-23) and another ace is decisive, this time of Masulovic against Laurenzano, who realizes the first guest opportunity (23-25).
The home team tries to begin again after the field change (5-3 with the signature of Rychlicki), but Padua places a 0-3 set after the time out of Cuttini thanks to the block (5-6) and immediately returns to the game. Then, it’s Michieletto (ace and winning back row attack) who creates a new tear (10-8) which Sonepar soon sews back thanks to Masulovic’s wonderful work on the net (12-12). The game is played long on point to point (16-16 and 18-18), then an ace by Pellacani and a block by Flavio on the same left-handed opposite make a new internal +2 (21-19), which Trento holds until the 25-23 (attack by Michieletto).
In the fourth set, Michieletto again takes good care to gift a minimal advantage (7-5); right after Soli makes Bertha try the field (going in Pellacani’s stead) and Trento turns the gear up (12-8) also thanks to a great block by Flavio. Padova disunites and gives the side to the yellow-blues, who do not hesitate to make breakpoint after breakpoint (18-13) and finish it all on 3-1 with the definitive 25-19 (ace by Michieletto).
