Itas Trentino-Sir Susa Vim Perugia 1-3, the match report
The match report. Itas Trentino has to give up only their third middle-blocker Bartha (his place on the bench is taken by baby Sandu), with their coach Fabio Soli deciding to confirm the starting six that has always been used since the start of the championship: Sbertoli as the setter, Gabi Garcia opposite, Michieletto and Lavia as spikers, Kozamernik and Flavio Gualberto as middle-blockers, Laurenzano libero. The Sir Susa Vim Perugia proposed by Lorenzetti still needs to do without Giannelli (out due to an abdominal problem), substituted by Zoppellari in charge; Ben Tara opposite, Semeniuk and Plotnytskyi as spikers, Loser and Russo as middle-blockers and Colaci libero complete the line-up. The start of the home team was intense (4-1) thanks to a very pumped Gabi Garcia (attacker and ace); Lavia blocks Ben Tara for the 6-2, forcing the Umbrians to immediately seek refuge in a time out. On the resumption, it’s Plotnytskyi who ends up bringing it back for his team (7-5), who find the tie at 9 thanks to a net breakpoint by Semeniuk and a block by Ben Tara on Micheletto. Itas Trentino doesn’t break and gets back in the game with Garcia and former member Flavio (scored counterattacks for the 12-9), then mimicked by Sbertoli (block for the 14-10). Lorenzeteti exhausts all time available, but it’s followed by a blue-and-yellow monologue (17-10), inspired by the serves of the Portorican and the excellent work on the blocks. The home 1-0 is still not matured though, since Perugia (with Ishikawa on the field in place of Semeniuk) tries a comeback once more, going to the minus three (20-17). However, it’s the last flinch, since Trento later doesn’t let anything else through (23-18) and heads to the change of field on the 25-19 already, with a back row attack by the outstanding Lavia in the first set.
The second set is definitely more uncertain, the two teams start and go neck-and-neck for a long while (3-3, 7-7, 11-11), without making a decisive breach. The block of Ben Tara on Michieletto is the true first external advantage of the night (11-13), but Flavio immediately brings back the tie with another block (13-13). The Sir Susa Vim escapes again (16-19) with Ishikawa (confirmed as holder in this phase); Itas Trentino makes a comeback with an error by the same Japanese (19-20), without ever managing to reverse this tendency however; the 1-1 indeed comes with an ace by Plotnytskyi.
The script doesn’t change in the third set, with a fight that goes on point after point, highlighting Gabi Garcia on one side and Ishikawa on the other (4-4 and 10-10). Michieletto sets a counter attacking score and grants the +3 (16-13), forcing Lorenzetti to call a timeout. On the resumption, Perugia settles the score already on 17 with an ace by Plotnytskyi and a block by Ben Tara on Michieletto. The final rush is very tight; Trento goes forward with Michieletto (20-19), but an error by Alessandro immediately flips the situation back around (20-21). An ace by Russo offers to set balls for the away team (22-24); the home team cancel them both but then fall on the 24-26 with a block by Plotnytskyi on Lavia, which gives the 24-26 and the first point ever left on the road in the regular seasons by the blue-and-yellow team.
The Champions of Europe pay the price of defeat on a mental level at the sprint of the previous set and begin the fourth with difficulty by the net; the Umbrians immediately charge ahead (3-6). Fabio Soli spends two time outs in the span of a few minutes, but his team loses more contact (5-10 and 7-13) and finds itself incapable of being productive in the breakpoint phase. The technician from Trentino then adds Rychlicki in place of Gabi Garcia and it’s because of a winning block by the newcomer that Itas Trentino gets set back by three points (13-16), who had previously scored with a monster block by Flavio. The illusion doesn’t last long: Loser scores two consecutive aces and designates the new +6 (14-20) which marks a gravestone on the whole match: Perugia conquers the ilT quotidiano Arena already for 1-3 on the 19-25.
