Itas Trentino closes the pre-season with a 3-1 victory over Verona
Itas Trentino men's team closed the pre-season with an auspicious victory in the 3rd ‘Trofeo Ferramenta Astori’ in Montichiari. This evening at the PalaGeorge, the European champions defeated Rana Verona 3-1 in the final of the quadrangular played in Brescia over the past two days, taking their fourth victory in as many matches played during the preparation period of the 2024/25 season.
After Saturday evening's five sets against Modena, the yellow-blue team played another four sets today, finding, especially in the second half of the match, that continuity of play that they had lacked in some sections in the match against the ‘Canarini’ and Piacenza on Wednesday evening in Schio. Merit once again went to the excellent attacking performance (56%) and the progressive growth of the block, which struggled to get to grips initially with Verona's spikers before beginning to lay down the law. For a set and a half, the ‘Scaligeri’ were able to put the European champions in difficulty with their serve and good efficiency at the net; but Trento came out at distance, especially thanks to the consistency of Michieletto (18 points with 77%) and the great offensive productivity of Rychlicki (best scorer of the match with 21 winning balls, five blocks).
Six days before the Supercoppa Final Four in Florence, Fabio Soli can therefore be satisfied with the running-in of his team, which has shown, regardless of its physical condition, that it always wants to fight and has many weapons at its disposal; tonight, for example, Daniele Lavia was lethal in the break-point phase: half of his points on the scoreboard came precisely in this situation.
“Our initial difficulties in expressing our game were the result of Verona’s great approach to the match - commented Itas Trentino coach Fabio Soli at the end of the match - . The opponents put us in great difficulty, but this is what we needed to test our ability to react. We suffered in reception and as a result we were less fluid. We stayed in the game thanks to a good break point phase, then we also improved our attack after our reception and became more efficient in all the fundamentals. It was a very useful weekend, but the next one will be even more difficult; however, we gathered the indications we wanted”.
Itas Trentino will return to Trento in the evening and enjoy a full day of rest before starting the week of training that will lead the Gialloblù to the Final Four of the Del Monte® Supercoppa 2024 in Florence. Saturday, 21 September, at 6 pm, the semifinal with Monza will be played at the Palawanny.
